Ocean Thermal Energy Conversion – Bluerise
Converting ocean temperature differences into electricity
The ocean in tropical areas is a huge solar collector, heating up the surface. Unlike the surface water, deep ocean water is very cold. This temperature difference is very valuable. The cold water can be used for the cooling of buildings. In warm countries, there is a huge demand for cooling and this technology saves 90% of the energy consumption that is normally needed. An even more lucrative application is to convert the temperature difference into electricity. Especially offshore, the potential is enormous. Will this technology develop fast enough and what will be the cost price?
