Weather stations across Africa
The Trans-African Hydro-Meteorological Observatory (TAHMO) builds on the original ideas behind Mr. Kofi Annan’s Weather Info For All initiative. TAHMO seeks to build and operate a network of 20,000 weather stations in sub-Saharan Africa, one per thousand square kilometers. The stations are cost efficient and demand very low maintenance, as they have zero moving parts. Most are placed at schools, which benefit through a special curriculum on weather and climate.
